Officials say those looking to volunteer for the Sept. 29 event have until Friday to register.
Individuals and other community groups can register to pick up trash on almost any state-maintained road.
The Adopt-A-Highway program is co-sponsored by the Department of Environmental Protection and the state Division of Highways. It aims to improve environmental quality by encouraging public involvement in the elimination of highway litter.
More than 3,400 volunteers turned out for last year's cleanup and cleared more than 1,500 miles of West Virginia roadways. Since the program's inception in 1988, volunteers have cleaned up close to 70,000 miles of state highways and roads during annual spring and fall Adopt-A-Highway events.
