CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Charleston man is in jail after allegedly beating another man and stealing his watch on the city's West Side early this morning.

Harold Larue, 32, of Charleston told police he was walking home at about 1:45 a.m. when he stopped to talk to two men at the corner of Elm Street and Virginia Street West. Larue said one of the men attacked him, punched him in the face and took his watch before running off, according to Sgt. Eric Hodges of the Charleston Police Department.

Hodges said police found Melvin Murray Jr., 49, of Charleston, not far away and arrested him. Murray was charged with first-degree robbery. Hodges said the watch was recovered.

Murray was in the South Central Regional Jail on Monday, with bail set at $25,000.
