Putnam County Adult Learning Center will offer orientation for GED testing from September through December. Orientation takes 10 to 15 minutes and will take place between 3:30 and 6 p.m. at the Putnam Career and Technical Center on the following dates: Sept. 12 for the Sept. 17 and 19 test dates; Oct. 10 for the Oct. 16 and 17 test dates; Oct. 31 for the Nov. 5 and 7 test dates; and Dec. 4 for the Dec. 18 and 19 test dates. The tests take place from 4 to 8 p.m. on the test dates. Those planning to take the test should arrive by 3:45 p.m. Bring a photo ID, voucher and ticket.

Kanawha Communities That Care will sponsor a "Loved Ones" hour-long free addiction education presentation at 6 p.m. each Thursday on the second floor of the Haddad Building, 4825 MacCorkle Ave., South Charleston. Charleston Police Department's Citizen Academy Alumni Association will sponsor a pulled pork barbecue meal sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Roosevelt Neighborhood Center, Ruffner and Jackson streets. WV Dance will DJ the 2012 University Club dance 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Charleston Woman's Club, 1600 Virginia St. E. Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served at 7 p.m. The dance is open to singles and couples and will allow participants to dance all different types of ballroom, swing and Latin dances. Dress is semiformal. The price of the food and dance will be $25 per person for club members and $35 per person for nonmembers. Advance payment is not required but appreciated. South Charleston Memorial Ice Arena will sponsor a fundraiser Sept. 15 for the fallen officers in the Aug. 28 shooting. The fundraiser will take place from noon to 5 p.m. at the ice arena. All of the admission proceeds will be donated to the families of Cpl. Marshall Lee Bailey and Trooper Eric Workman. Admission is $10 and is cash only.
