OAK HILL, W.Va. -- A Fayette County woman severely injured her boyfriend after police said she got in his vehicle, struck him and then dragged him several feet Tuesday night.

Just before 11:30 p.m., 911 dispatchers notified Fayette County sheriff's deputies that a man was struck along Upper Summerlee Road near Oak Hill, Sheriff Steve Kessler said in a news release.

Police found that Ruth Owens, 34, of Minden, began arguing with her boyfriend, Larry Gill, 42, of Hilltop, after a night of heavy drinking. Owens allegedly got into Gill's vehicle and struck him, dragging him several feet down the roadway before stopping. Owens then fled from the scene still in the vehicle, Kessler said.

Paramedics took Gill to CAMC General Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition in the hospital's intensive care unit Wednesday

Owens hadn't been charged with any crime as of Wednesday afternoon, Kessler said.

"We need to wait until Mr. Gill's condition stabilizes so that we can determine the proper charges to file in connection with this matter," he said.
