Cottageville Community Educational Outreach Service (CEOS) Club: will host an Ol' Time Pie Social beginning 1 p.m. Saturday at the Jackson County Junior Fairgrounds in Cottageville. Three-legged races, sack races, water-balloon toss, a cake walk and more. Pies for the auction will be donated by candidates running for office. Family Movie Night will be featured. Bring a chair. Christian Family Book Shoppe in Smithers and Smithers Women's Club: will host the Second Annual Taste of Smithers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Christian Family Book Shoppe meeting room, inside and outside with more than 12 vendors present. Kanawha County Public Library: will offer a "Tales to Tails: Read to the Dogs" program for new and hesitant readers from kindergarten through the sixth grade. Registration is not necessary. Working with a therapy dog can help new readers feel relaxed while they practice a new skill in a fun way. Programs are held at the following libraries: Main Library, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturdays beginning this Saturday and continuing on Oct. 20 and Nov. 17; Dunbar Branch Library, 3 to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 9; Cross Lanes Branch Library, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Oct. 16; Elk Valley Branch Library: 2 to 4 p.m., Nov. 6; and Sissonville Branch Library, 6 to 7:30 p.m., Nov. 13.
Kanawha Trail Club: will sponsor a hike Sunday at Ansted Rail Trail. Meet at 1 p.m. to carpool from Ohio and Randolph streets. Regroup at Hawks Nest lodge parking area.
