Wheeling teen injured in fall off hood of moving car

WHEELING, W.Va. -- A Wheeling teenager who jumped on the hood of a vehicle, then slid off and was run over is in critical condition, but police say charges against the driver are unlikely.

Eighteen-year-old Lindsey Mann suffered severe head injuries earlier this week while goofing around with friends on Wheeling Island.

Deputy Chief Martin Kimball says it appears to have been a tragic stunt.

He says the unidentified driver wasn't drinking. Although she failed several motor skills tests, Kimball said Thursday that could be a result of her emotional state.

The victim remained in intensive care Thursday afternoon at Wheeling Hospital.

Kimball says Mann occasionally becomes conscious but doesn't recall the accident. He says doctors are guardedly optimistic she'll survive but aren't making any predictions about the extent of possible brain damage.
