CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Rite Aid is rolling out its new wellness store in Charleston Saturday with free health screenings and health food samples.

The remodeled Rite Aid Wellness Store, 406 W. Washington St., is the drugstore chain's new model for future stores to promote healthy living.

The wellness store carries more organic, gluten-free and natural food products and has expanded vitamin and supplement options with a new GNC department, according to the company.

For the first time, a "wellness ambassador" will be available to answer customers' questions using a custom iPad. The ambassador, a position that was created for the wellness store, will connect the customer to the pharmacy by offering clinical advice and services of Rite Aid pharmacists.

Saturday's grand opening will feature free health screenings such as cholesterol and blood glucose testing, memory impairment assessments, blood pressure readings and diabetes risk assessments.

Wellness ambassadors will provide interactive demonstrations on the iPads and will help customers electronically enroll in Rite Aid's wellness+ program, a customer loyalty program that offers health and wellness benefits and discounts.

Free samples of Rite Aid's new products, including organic, gluten-free and natural food, will also be available.

The event is from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.
