CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Generation Charleston will host Urban Living 2012 this week to promote the advantages of "living, working, and playing" downtown.
The three-day event begins Tuesday with the sixth annual Loft Walk at 5 p.m. Loft Walk starts at Adelphia Sports Bar on Capitol Street. From there, guests can walk or ride a trolley to the newly renovated lofts. A tour guide will lead attendees to the properties in the Charmco Building, Kanawha Banking & Trust Building and 225 Hale St.
A reception after the Loft Walk will be held at Adelphia until 8:30 p.m. for guests, Realtors, property managers and property owners.
A launch party for the Charleston Area Alliance's new initiative, Thrive, will be hosted at DigiSo, 1506 Kanawha Blvd., at 5:30 p.m.
Earlier this month, a blind panel selected nine Kanawha Valley-based businesses with 30 or fewer employees that each produced 60-second pitch videos to promote their business and need for crowd funds.
Guests will pay $20, which permits them to vote for one of the nine business's videos that they want to support. The entrepreneur with the most votes will receive $20, multiplied by the number of attendees, as cash for them to keep as an investment in their business.
The fund also will include a $1,000 prize through the support of Vision Shared and Industrial Bolting. Other partners in Thrive include the Arts Council of West Virginia, Create West Virginia, DigiSo, Generation Charleston and BB&T.
Urban Living 2012 ends Thursday with the Downtown ArtWalk. The monthly Charleston Area Alliance event is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m.
The Urban Living ArtWalk will include an electronic scavenger hunt, according to the Alliance. Prior to ArtWalk, photographic clues will be posted on the Generation Charleston's Facebook page. When a clue is located that night participants must take a photo of themselves in front of the art clue and post it to the Generation Charleston Facebook page to enter. The participant with the most correct pictures will win a prize.
