The Sherlock Holmes Society of Charleston: will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the South Charleston Public Library, 312 Fourth Ave., South Charleston. A presentation of the Arthur Conan Doyle story The "Gloria Scott" will be given. Refreshments will be served. Call 343-1680 for information.

Main Street Ripley and the West Virginia Humanities Council: will present the next Humanities Council Sesquicentennial Speakers Bureau program at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Alpine Theater in Ripley. The featured speaker is Joe Geiger, director of the West Virginia State Archives in Charleston. Geiger will deliver a talk titled "The 35th Star: West Virginia Statehood."
