Missing drugs in Beckley won't affect federal cases, U.S. attorney says
BECKLEY - U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin says federal cases won't be affected by prescription drugs that are missing from the Beckley Police Department's evidence room.
But Goodwin tells The Register-Herald (http://bit.ly/QiFy9I ) that his office is still reviewing the matter.
The drugs were discovered missing in August. Raleigh County prosecutor Kristin Keller has said state drug cases going back with 15 months would be dismissed because evidence had been compromised.
The federal Drug Enforcement Agency is conducting a criminal investigation into the missing drugs. An internal investigation is being conducted by the police department.
Police Chief Tim Deems told Beckley Common Council last week that the department is addressing security issues.
