CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A new physician assistant program at the University of Charleston received provisional accreditation and will admit its first students in January.

The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant found no areas of noncompliance with the program, according to a news release from the school.

"This is the highest possible level of accreditation available to the program at this stage," UC officials said in the release.

Only graduates of programs accredited by the commission are eligible to take the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination.
