CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- More than a dozen middle schools in West Virginia will receive musical instruments in the fall from the VH1 Save The Music Foundation Program.
The West Virginia Division of Culture and History said Tuesday that each of the 16 schools would receive $30,000 worth of instruments. The national VH1 Save The Music partnership program was matched by sponsors across the state who contributed $450,000 for the instruments.
Nineteen other schools have received instruments since it began in the state in 2009. Another two schools are expected to receive instruments next year.
Foundation executive director and vice president Paul Cothran says West Virginia's program is the organization's first and largest statewide effort to ensure, over time, access to music education.
