Golf cart riders create headaches in Chester
CHESTER, W.Va. -- Chester resident Joe Geisse says a golf cart is an inexpensive and environmentally friendly way to get around town.
Chester officials say riding a golf cart on city streets is illegal and creates unsafe situations.
The Weirton Daily Times says about six people ride golf carts around town, including one person who is handicapped. Chester City Council has been debating what to do about them for about two months.
Police Chief Ken Thorn told the council at Monday's meeting that the city should either enforce the law or permit golf carts only on back streets.
Geisse agrees that rules are needed. The former city councilman plans to submit recommendations to the council.
Council members plan to do more research before they draft any legislation.
