DUNBAR, W.Va. -- A Dunbar man has been charged in the theft of more than $166,000 of money meant for his mother.

State Police say in a criminal complaint that Thomas G. Burger was responsible for the care of his 88-year-old mother, Hilda, and that he depleted a bank account that was maintained for her.

The complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court says most of the cash withdrawals since 2007 allegedly were done to support Thomas Burger's drug addiction.

Burger was charged Tuesday with misappropriation of funds and assets. He was being held on $100,000 bond Tuesday night at the South Central Regional Jail. Jail records didn't indicate whether Burger had an attorney.
