Former W.Va. gov's house to be educational center
ELKINS, W.Va. -- A former West Virginia governor's house in Elkins will be converted into an educational center for teachers and students.
The daughter of former Gov. Herman Kump bought his house after he died in 1962. When she died in 2008, she left the house to the city of Elkins. The will stipulated that the estate be used for educators and to serve educational purposes.
Kump House project manager Heather Biola tells WBOY-TV that organizers are working on creating a place where teachers can work on projects for their schools.
Volunteer coordinator Grace Sundelin says the facility also can provide certification and training opportunities.
Students also will benefit from field trips to the estate.
The project is expected to be completed in 2019 and cost about $3 million.
