Man hit, killed by car in Lincoln County

HAMLIN, W.Va. -- The West Virginia State Police has identified a man struck and killed by a car late Monday.

Jennings R. Ferguson, 49, of Branchland, was found lying alongside W.Va. 10 at about 9:30 p.m. Monday after being hit by a car near Midkiff, according to a spokeswoman at the State Police's Hamlin detachment.

Ferguson was declared dead at the scene. Witnesses said Ferguson might have been intoxicated and wandering in and out of the roadway at the time he was hit.

The State Police has not yet released the name of the driver who hit Ferguson. The agency said it does not expect to file charges.
