BECKLEY, W.Va. -- Beckley Police say a Raleigh County middle school student has been detained in a juvenile facility after being caught with a gun, marijuana and alcohol at a high school football game.

Authorities say the student has been charged with possession of a firearm by a juvenile, possession of marijuana and underage possession of alcohol following Friday's homecoming game for Woodrow Wilson High School.

Beckley Police Detective Sgt. David Allard told The Register-Herald that the gun was a 9 mm pistol.

Officials with Raleigh County Pupil Services declined to release details about the student or the incident because it is under investigation by the school system.

The homecoming dance was canceled and officials planned to meet with school staff before the next football game.
