FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- A downtown Fairmont block is being razed to make way for a new $25 million state office building.

The former Fairmont Theatre is among the buildings that are being demolished. Media outlets say crews began tearing down the old theater, which closed in 2007, Wednesday.

Marion County administrator Kris Cinalli says the state building will bring more than 200 jobs to the downtown area. He says the theater's demolition symbolizes change.
