SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia's archery season for deer and bear opened Saturday, and wild boar archery season will open Oct. 13, according to the state Division of Natural Resources.

Officials say that while the wild boar and traditional deer archery seasons are about the same as last year, the bear archery season is starting earlier and closing later.

And in addition to the earlier opening date, the bear archery season is being split into seasons that run from Saturday until Nov. 17 and Dec. 3 through Dec. 31.

For more information on the seasons and appropriate regulations, hunters should visit the agency's website at http://www.wvdnr.gov.
