ST. ALBANS, W.Va. --  A teenage driver led officers on an early morning police chase before crashing into a utility pole.

Trellae Desjien Nellum-Toney, 18, ran a stoplight in St. Albans shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday. St. Albans Police officers said when they tried to stop him, Nellum-Toney fled.

During the chase, Nellum-Toney lost control of the car and hit a utility pole on Pennsylvania Avenue near Drumheller Road at 2:50 a.m., according to police.

Officers said Nellum-Toney told them the woman who was the passenger in the car during the chase had been the one behind the wheel.

No one was injured in the crash.

Nellum-Toney is facing misdemeanor charges of fleeing in a vehicle, failure to yield, driving without a license and reckless driving.

According to members of the booking staff at the South Central Regional Jail, Nellum-Toney was arraigned and released Saturday afternoon.
