CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A crash on the West Virginia Turnpike sent several people to the hospital early Saturday morning.

The crash happened around 1 a.m. Saturday in the southbound lane just before the Chelyan exit, according to a dispatcher.

A pickup truck struck a passenger car, causing the later vehicle to roll, the dispatcher said.

The truck driver drove on, fleeing the scene.

The dispatcher was not certain how many people were taken to the hospital but some had serious injuries, he said.
