New W.Va. DMV regional office has smooth opening

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. -- Motorists in the Parkersburg area no longer have to go to a temporary site to renew their driver's licenses or obtain other vehicle-related services.

The Division of Motor Vehicles opened a new 9,000-square-foot regional office in Parkersburg on Monday. It includes a motorcycle-testing area and a video-conferencing room.

The DMV closed its former office in April 2011 because of mold and other problems. Services were offered at several temporary locations.

Pete Lake with the DMV tells the Parkersburg News and Sentinel that the new office's first day of operations went smoothly.

A grand-opening ceremony is scheduled for this afternoon.
