FUTURE EVENTS

Boone Memorial Hospital will sponsor a health fair from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Madison Civic Center. More than 55 vendors, entertainment, hearing tests, flu shots, blood work, health cooking show, free food, prizes and more will be featured. A ticket will be given for each nonperishable food item brought in. Tickets will be entered into a special prize drawing. Tests and costs include: Comprehensive Metabolic Panel with Lipids II, $15 (12-hour fasting required for lipids); PSA, $20; Thyroid Stimulating Hormone Test, $10; Hemoglobin A1C, $10; flu shots, $15; and Vitamin D testing, $30. The Charleston Area Ostomy Association and Local WOC (Ostomy) Nurses from the Kanawha Valley will host two open houses in conjunction with World Ostomy Day. The first open house will be held from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. Friday at CAMC Memorial, outside of the cafeteria. The second will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday at CAMC General, also outside of the cafeteria. Professionals will be available to answer questions and light refreshments will be provided. 

Town of Arthurdale will celebrate Eleanor Roosevelt's birthday during Arthurdale Heritage's party from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Reedsville Fire Hall, Reedsville, Preston County. Information about the first lady's many connections to the Arthurdale project will be on display. Birthday cake, wine, beer and various home-cooked appetizers will be served. Live music from Elmer Rich, who played for Mrs. Roosevelt; Ray Hicks, and Mark Crabtree will be featured. Tickets are $15 in advance online at www.arthurdaleheritage.org (or two for $25) or purchase them weekdays at the office along W.Va. 92 in Preston County. Tickets at the door are $20. All proceeds benefit Arthurdale's historic preservation efforts.

The Village People of Kanawha Valley will meet at 5 p.m. Sunday at the African Zion Baptist Church on Malden Drive in Malden. A social hour with covered dish will follow at the adjacent Cabin Creek Wellness Center, the onetime home of Cabin Creek Quilts Cooperative.  There is no charge to participate. This is the second meeting of the group focusing on designing non-institutional at-home living alternatives for individuals and couples who are 50 and older. This area group is staffed by a VISTA volunteer and based in the Cabin Creek Wellness Center. The group includes doctors, lawyers and teachers as well as service and tradespeople.
