American Legion Post 73, St. Albans, will have a pancake and sausage breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Post 1011 Pennsylvania Ave., St. Albans. The cost of the breakfast is $6 for adults and $3 for children.
The Charleston Surgical Hospital, 1306 Kanawha Blvd., will be giving free flu shots to adults only from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 6. Free parking is available on the Virginia Street side.
Senior Corps Volunteers of United Way are sponsoring a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the United Way grounds, corner of Court and Smith streets. Yard space rentals are available for $10. Hot dogs, chips, drinks and baked goods will also be sold. Proceeds from the event help support the volunteer programs of RSVP and the Foster Grandparent Program. Overbrook Elementary will host its annual Octoberfest from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday at the school, 218 Oakwood Road. Proceeds will help pay for additional resources including art supplies and binders as well as enrichment activities and cultural events. The carnival will feature games, inflatables for all ages, a cakewalk and a photo booth. A silent auction for themed baskets, including WVU and Marshall tailgating baskets, will be held. A raffle drawing for Walt Disney World passes, an iPad and $500 cash will be featured. Raffle tickets cost $1 each and the drawing will take place at 7 p.m. Dinner in the cafeteria will include barbecue and hot dogs. Parking for Octoberfest 2012 will be available at the lower left lot of Charleston Tennis Club until 5:30 p.m. After 5:30 p.m., visitors are encouraged to park at George Washington High School. Trolley service will shuttle visitors between parking areas and the school.

Truth Seekers will meet from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the South Charleston Public Library. Topics will be Technology -- How to use computers, Internet, mp3 players and more. Other topics include 9/11, banking, war, chemical trails and taxes -- alternative perspective. Hundreds of documentary books and DVDs are available. The Kanawha Trail Club will sponsor a new hike Sunday on Arrowhead Trails, New River Gorge. Meet at noon to carpool from Ohio and Randolph streets. Re-group at Arrowhead parking area near Kaymoor Top off Gatewood Road. The hike is approximately 4 miles on new trails rated moderate.
