Chester, W.Va. bans riding golf carts on streets

CHESTER, W.Va. -- Chester residents can no longer cruise around town on golf carts.

Media outlets say the City Council voted this week to ban the vehicles on city streets.

Councilman Mike Dotson says city officials are concerned about the safety of golf cart riders.

Also, Dotson says golf carts don't meet state or federal guidelines for what can be safely driven on a city street.

Vince Laneve says his 18-year-old son Andrew has a medical condition that prevents him from driving a car. He says the ban means his son won't be able to go anywhere.

Former councilwoman Dana Picciarelli says she drives a golf cart mainly on back streets to run errands. Her daughter, Toni Snyder, also drives a golf cart around town.
