Protea Biosciences finds new global partners

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Protea Biosciences says it's started new international distributor partnerships with several companies in Israel, Poland, Spain, Portugal and Turkey.

The Morgantown-based company says that reflects its continuing, successful expansion.

General Manager Alessandro Baldi says the new distributors will market Protea's sample preparation and mass spectrometry products, including the Laser Ablation Electrospray Ionization device, or LAESI.

In May, Protea received a $200,000 private investment to help it grow. The company said in May it has lost at least $37 million since it was formed in 2001.

It's banking on sales of the LAESI to reverse that trend.

In late June, Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin commended Protea for using international sales to reach new markets.
