Capital High gas drilling would produce 3 wells

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The leadership of Kanawha County Schools is considering drilling three natural gas wells on Capital High School property.

Officials say the drilling would pose no risk to students and provide savings and revenue to a system in need of both.

The Charleston Daily Mail said Reserve Oil & Gas is proposing two wells across the street from the high school, while a third would be on the same side of the road as the school. It would be located about one-quarter of a mile from the school.

County facilities director Chuck Wilson said officials want the wells as far away from the school as possible and that drilling would occur when school is not in session.

No bids for drilling have been solicited.
