CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin will speak at a public meeting later this month on the dangers of hydrocodone.

The Food and Drug Administration will conduct the hearing Oct. 29 and 30 in Silver Spring, Md.

Manchin is set to speak on Oct. 30 before a committee that advises the FDA on the abuse potential of drugs and makes recommendations about possible controls.

Manchin says a measure he proposed to make it tougher to abuse drugs containing hydrocodone was stripped from an FDA funding bill in May. Manchin says he secured this month's meeting to get a public discussion going about addictive hydrocodone.
