CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -- A new four-lane segment of W.Va. 9 in Jefferson County is scheduled to open next month.

The segment runs about five miles from U.S. 340 near Charles Town to the Virginia border.

The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown, Md., says the segment is scheduled to open Nov. 1.

The project is part of an upgrade of W.Va. 9 in the Eastern Panhandle. The original two-lane route was built in the 1930s.
