Ex-Salem city manager convicted of embezzlement

SALEM, W.Va. -- Former Salem City Manager David Mayle has been convicted on six counts of embezzlement, falsifying accounts and conspiracy.

That was the verdict from a Harrison County Circuit Court jury on Tuesday.

Prosecutors argued that Mayle and former City Clerk Sherry Olenick embezzled thousands of dollars.

Two former police clerks said they left checks that they wrote for the city with Mayle to send to companies. The companies then called and said they didn't receive the checks.

Olenick pleaded guilty in September to falsifying accounts and conspiring to embezzle city funds. She agreed to cooperate in the case against Mayle.

WBOY-TV reports Mayle will be sentenced Dec. 12 in Clarksburg and will remain free on bond until then.
