BECKLEY, W.Va. -- A Bluefield man has been sentenced to two years and three months in federal prison for illegal possession of prescription drugs.

Federal prosecutors say 33-year-old Adrian Alexander Wilson was sentenced as part of the Bluefield Pill Initiative, a multi-agency effort aimed at stopping drug trafficking in Mercer, McDowell and Wyoming counties.

Wilson pleaded guilty in June to possession with intent to distribute a quantity of the painkiller hydromorphone. Wilson admitted having 79 pills and $635 cash from prior drug sales that law enforcement officers found in a vehicle in January 2011.

The Bluefield Pill Initiative has resulted in the convictions of about two-dozen people. U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin announced the initiative in June 2011.
