Hawks Nest tram down for repairs
Advertiser

ANSTED, W.Va. -- An aerial tram that takes Hawks Nest State Park visitors into the New River Gorge is under repair.

West Virginia state park system engineer Brad Leslie says the tram became inoperable on Oct. 13 due to a power surge and resulting electrical failure.

Park managers and maintenance employees have been working to fix the tram. Leslie says parts for the 40-year-old system aren't readily available.

Officials are hoping to have the tram working again by this weekend, but Leslie says they may not be completed in time.

Bridge Day is Saturday along the New River Gorge Bridge. The Hawks Nest tram typically sees more use during Bridge Day Weekend as tens of thousands of visitors head to Fayette County.

A public access area for fishing will still be available along with jet boat trips from the Hawks Nest Marina.
