MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- AARP ranks Morgantown and Roanoke, Va., among the Best Places to Live on $100 a Day.

Also on the list of most affordable places to retire this year are: Pittsburgh; Eau Claire, Wis.; Gainesville, Fla.; Grand Junction, Colo.; Las Cruces, N.M.; Omaha, Neb.; San Antonio, Texas; and Spokane, Wash.

AARP says it started with a theoretical income of $36,500, or $100 a day. After taxes at 25 percent, that leaves $27,375.

AARP then used a median housing cost of $192,000, or a monthly mortgage of $719 a month.

That leaves a retiree about $1,562 a month for everything else.

It started with a list of 200 cities then pared it to 10 by focusing on quality of life components such as arts and culture, colleges and restaurants.
