W.Va. AG initiative targets identity theft
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A new initiative by the West Virginia Attorney General's Office aims to help victims of identity theft.
The office has created the Identity Theft Resource Center to help victims prevent further damage, report the crime and repair any damage to their credit history.
The center offers guidance on disputing bills resulting from identity theft, freezing accounts and canceling fraudulent accounts. Consumers also can get tips on how to prevent identity theft, along with information on how to contact credit bureaus and obtain credit reports.
Attorney General Darrell McGraw says understanding the risks is the first step in preventing identity theft.
