CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Record-keeping problems in a home health-care program will cost the state $360,000.
The Department of Health and Human Resources agreed to refund the money to the federal government following an audit that discovered the problems. The agency also plans to improve oversight of the program.
The Charleston Daily Mail reported the audit's findings and the agency's response Thursday.
The program provides home health care to people who need help with daily activities such as bathing, eating and dressing.
According to the audit, 18 of 100 "beneficiary-months" that were reviewed didn't comply with federal and state requirements.
Most of the problems dealt with recordkeeping, including paying for undocumented services.
