Volunteers sought for state disaster relief
Advertiser

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Two organizations are looking for volunteers to help with disaster relief efforts in Nicholas County.

Catholic Charities is working with West Virginia Volunteers Active in Disasters to identify and coordinator efforts.

Authorities have said snow drifts in the county have approached 5 feet in some places, leading to roof collapses on an apartment complex, four businesses and three homes. No injuries were reported. Many of the apartment complex's 72 residents were taken to shelters.

Catholic Charities' West Virginia chapter says there's a critical need for volunteers, supplies and snow removal equipment in the county.

Volunteers can contact Catholic Charities state disaster coordinator Kristen Harrison at (304) 952-1852.
