CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles is extending the expiration of state passenger vehicle registrations, driver's licenses and identification cards.

DMV Commissioner Joe Miller said the extension is due to the damaging effects of superstorm Sandy across the state.

The extension covers customers who had vehicle registrations scheduled to expire on Oct. 31. The expiration date is now extended to Nov. 15.

Officials say the expiration date for driver's licenses and identification cards scheduled to expire between Oct. 29 and Nov. 15 has been extended until Nov. 15. The extension includes waiver of any late fee penalties as well as the six-month retesting requirements.
