State high school students to honor veterans

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Officials hope a statewide event to show support for veterans will give students the chance to record their stories.

Statewide, more than a dozen high schools are holding Take a Veteran to School Day. Other events are being held at the Boys & Girls Club in Huntington.

High school students will join with students from West Virginia University's School of Journalism, Concord University and Glenville State College to interview veterans and record their oral histories. Those histories will be submitted and archived at the Library of Congress.

About 600 of West Virginia's more than 200,000 veterans have had their stories archived in the library. Officials hope to add at least 30 this year.

The events will be held Nov. 7 through Nov. 15.
