Met Opera presents the encore presentation of "The Elixer of Love," by Donizetti from 6:30 to approximately 9:30 p.m. at Cinemark in Huntington Mall. The Greenbrier Historical Society will offer the next Fall Lecture Series event at 6 p.m. Thursday at the North House Museum, Lewisburg. The speaker will be Gary Reed, a resident of Alderson and Federal Bureau of Prisons retiree, who has been collecting and studying American Indian artifacts for more than 35 years. Reed will talk about the cultures of early American Indians in our region and how their culture shaped the tools and artifacts they created. The cost is $5. Unity of Kanawha Valley will be home to the monthly Open Stage and Coffee House at 7:30 p.m. Friday at 804 Myrtle Road, corner of Bridge and Myrtle roads. The host will be Ron Sowell. All local musicians are welcome to share their talents. Performers sign up at 7 p.m. General admission is $5. Admission for performers, seniors and children is $2. Various coffees, teas, soft drinks and homemade treats are available at a small cost. Ron Sowell's Coffee House and Open Stage takes place on the second Friday of every month.
The Extreme Country Dance Club will have a dance class at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Elk Elementary in Mink Shoals.
Marmet Recreation Center will feature the Buck McPheney Classic Country Band at the dance at 7 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $8 per person. Line Dance Classes are offered at 7:15 p.m. each Monday at the Marmet Recreation Center in Marmet.
Clay Center will offer free admission for active, reserve and retired military personnel for the museum, film and planetary shows on Sunday to celebrate Veterans Day. Present military ID or proof of service to redeem. Clay Center museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
