WVU Fan Club: will meet at 7 p.m. at Harding's, Mink Shoals. Speaker will be Jed Drenning, the sideline reporter and analyst for WVU football.
FUTURE EVENTS
Wharton Elementary School: will have its Harvest Day from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the school located in Wharton. Apple butter will be made and sold that day.
Kanawha Trail Club: will sponsor a hike Sunday at Wild Rock New River Gorge. Meet at 12:30 p.m. to carpool from Ohio and Randolph streets. Regroup at Adventures on Gorge-Class VI. The hike is approximately 4 miles on a loop hike with good footing, moderate hills and views of the gorge.
The St. Albans Historical Society: will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Historical Society Building, 404 Fourth Ave., adjacent to the C&O Depot. Musician Joe Dobbs will present a program about old time musical instruments. The public is welcome. Refreshments will follow.
Met Opera's: premiere production of "The Tempest," by Thomas Ades, in HD Live will be presented from 12:55 p.m. to approximately 3:55 p.m. Saturday at Cinemark in Huntington and Great Escape in Nitro. The opera was inspired by Shakespeare's play of the same name. Tickets at Cinemark are $22 for adults, $20 for seniors and $15 for children. Tickets at Great Escape are $20 for adults; $16 for seniors and children. A limited number of complimentary tickets are available. Call Cinemark at 304-696-3137 or Great Escape at 304-342-0316. West Virginia Wesleyan's Wellness Center: will sponsor an Early Bird Turkey Trot 5K Run/2 Mile Walk at 1 p.m. Sunday at the track on Ross Field. Proceeds will benefit the Wesleyan track team and wellness center. Pre-registration is $15 for the general public and $10 with a WVWC discount for students and staff until Saturday. On race day the entry fee will be $20. The first 100 registered will receive a free T-shirt. The course is flat, beginning at the track and continuing through Buckhannon. In the case of rain, the race will be moved to the Auxiliary Gym located in Rockefeller Center. The top three females and males will be awarded a prize. Participants who dress up like a turkey or pilgrim will be entered in a drawing for Best Costume. The entry form is available at www.wvwc.edu/campus/wellness.
