WINFIELD, W.Va. -- Two Winfield High School students were caught with prescription pills at school on Wednesday, according to police.

A student told the school's resource officer that two male students were in the bathroom using illegal substances, according to a news release from John Perrine, the Winfield police chief.

The boys, 16 and 17, who were supposed to be on their way to after school detention, were taken to the school counselor's office and searched, according to the release.

Police found 15 20-millegram capsules of Vyvanse, a medication meant to treat attention deficit disorder, and one empty container of 800-milligram Metaxalone, a muscle relaxant, on the 16-year-old boy, the release states. The 17-year-old boy had one capsule of Vyvanse, according to police.

The 16-year-old student, who allegedly told police he took the medication from family members and gave the 17-year-old a pill, was charged with possession and intent to distribute prescription medication. Perrine wrote in the release that officials plan to expel the 16-year-old student.

The 17-year-old student has not been charged. Perrine wrote that school officials plan to suspend him.
