CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Police identified a 48-year-old man who was found dead in the Kanawha River Friday afternoon.

Two men were fishing on the riverbank at the Raymond City boat ramp at about 1 p.m. when they spotted a man's body and called police, Putnam County Detective Shawn Johnson said. Police recovered the body from around 3 p.m.

Johnson identified the man as Gregory Keith Tennant of St. Albans.

"He's been in there for a while," Johnson said.

Detectives found Tennant's driver's license inside his pocket and notified his family.

Whether foul play is involved hasn't been determined, Johnson said. The body has been sent to the state Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy.
