CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Kanawha County Commission recently received $65,000 in federal funding to help pay for costs incurred during the June 29 derecho storm that swept through West Virginia and knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of people.

County officials expect another $21,600 from the state.

Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper said the money is intended to reimburse the county for overtime and other costs during the two-week-long period following the storm. County officials intend to put the money into a special account for future emergencies.
