Mercer fire departments battle brush fire

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Four Mercer County fire departments and officials from the West Virginia Division of Forestry battled a brush 400- to 500-acre brush fire Sunday afternoon, a dispatcher said.

Crews were called out to the fire off Ada Road in Bluefield around noon and were still fighting the blaze around 8:30 p.m., according to a dispatcher from the Mercer County Sheriff's office.

The fire endangered two structures but neither caught flames, the dispatcher said.
