Oak Hill Kmart to close
Advertiser

The Kmart store in Oak Hill is set to close, company officials said Monday.

The store, which has 59 employees, will close in late January, Chris Brathwaite, a spokesman for Sears Holdings, said in an email.

Liquidation sales began at the store last weekend, he said. Eligible employees will receive a severance and will have the opportunity to apply for open position at area Sears or Kmart stores, he said. The majority of the employees at the store are part time and hourly, he said.

"These decisions are never easy, because Kmart appreciates being a member of the community," Brathwaite said. "However, we made a business decision to not renew the lease at this location based on its performance."

The store opened in 1993, he said.
