MINERAL WELLS, W.Va. -- The opening of a new bridge on W.Va. 14 in Wood County completes a three-phase road project that began in 2001.

The $9.4 million bridge in Mineral Wells is scheduled to open this afternoon.

Division of Highways spokesman Mike Foley tells the Parkersburg News and Sentinel that the first phase was the addition of an overpass at Interstate 77 in Mineral Wells. In the second phase, four lanes were added at Pettyville.

The new bridge eliminates a sharp curve. Foley says the curve wasn't safe because it's in a highly congested area.
