CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The deadline for West Virginians affected by this summer's derecho to seek federal assistance is fast approaching.

Sens. Jay Rockefeller and Joe Manchin, and Congressman Nick Rahall say individuals have until Monday to apply for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Individual assistance can be used to pay for home repairs, rental assistance, disaster-related medical, dental and funeral expenses, and repair or replacement of uninsured personal property. The June 29 derecho and subsequent storms left three people dead and more than 680,000 customers without electricity across the state.

Those wishing to apply should visit the website http://www.DisasterAssistance.gov, or call 800-621-3362.
