Holiday programs/events:

Loudendale Church of the Nazarene: will hold its Christmas Cantata at 7 p.m. Dec. 6 and at 6 p.m. Dec. 9 at the church.

Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church: North Monroe St., Alderson, will have its Eighth Annual Christmas Bazaar and Luncheon from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 1 and from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 2 at the church. Nicholas Naylor's Christmas Faith Tour: titled "Believe" will take place at 7 p.m. Dec. 1 at Grace Church of the Nazarene in South Charleston and at 7 p.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Sissonville. Parchment Valley Conference Center: located in Ripley will celebrate Christmas with a concert, craft show, pictures with Santa and activities for children Dec. 8. The craft show will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; pictures with Santa from 10 a.m. to noon; free children's activities from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and a concert featuring Johnny Staats at 3 p.m. Craft space is available for $35 for a 10x10 space, or $45 if electricity is required. WVBC church groups (youth, AB Women's Ministries, AB Men, etc.) will receive a $10 discount on booth space. Music groups are also sought to perform 45 minutes throughout the craft show. West Virginia Symphony Chorus: will present "Midnight Mass for Christmas," by Marc-Antoine Charpentier and "Magnificat," by Charles Theodore Pachelbel at 8 p.m. Nov. 29 at Johnson Memorial Methodist Church, 513 10th St., Huntington, and at 8 p.m. Nov. 30 at Christ Church United Methodist, Quarrier and Morris streets. A freewill offering will be received.

First Baptist Church of Vandalia Male Chorus and St. Paul Baptist Church Male Chorus: will present "Christmas in the Valley" at 6 p.m. Dec. 1 at Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene, Teays Valley. The Male Chorus of Vandalia will perform "Christmas Up On the Hill" at 3 p.m. Dec. 2 at First Baptist Church of Vandalia, 1500 Mountain Road. For information, call 304-766-8254.

The Promised Land Quartet: from Shenandoah Valley, Va., will be performing a Christmas concert at 11 a.m. Dec. 9 at Meadow Grove Baptist Church, located at Dawson-Springdale Road in Greenbrier County. Admission is free, however, a love offering will be taken.

Miscellaneous:

St. John Greek Orthodox Church: 3512 MacCorkle Ave. S.E., will have a bake sale and dinner from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at the church. Combination dinners are $14 and includes roast chicken or Souzoukakia (meatballs), rice, green beans, Greek salad, grapeleaf, bread and dessert. Dinner items are available ala carte and as takeout orders. Pastry items include Baklava, $20 per dozen or $10 for 1/2 dozen; wedding cookies, $10 a dozen; butter twists, $7 a dozen; Finikia, $12 per dozen; and sweet bread, $7 each. Frozen spinach and cheese pies are $20 per dozen and frozen grapeleaf rolls are $12 per dozen.

The South Charleston First Church of the Nazarene: is hosting the Third Annual Community Thanksgiving Meal from noon to 2 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, Thursday at its location, 4923 Kentucky St., South Charleston. The meal is free and open to the public. Individuals and families can come to the church for a sit-down lunch or order carry-out meals to be delivered. Free transportation is also available for anyone in the greater-Charleston area. Reservations for lunch or meal deliveries can be made by calling 304-545-3058.

The Achievers Class of the Fifth Avenue Church of God in South Charleston: will open its Clothes Closet from 10 a.m. to noon today at the church. Clothes are free to families and individuals in need. Visitors should enter the church from the E Street side of the building. Free parking is available in the rear of the church. For more information, call Ruth Hunt at 304-744-5062.

Centerpointe Church in Hurricane: 3218 Teays Valley Road, will host its third annual turkey giveaway at 9 a.m. today. Frozen turkeys will be distributed for the Thanksgiving holiday to those in need. The turkeys will be handed out while supplies last on a first come, first serve basis.

Join Renea Crozier and the Women With Abundant Life: 1534 Washington St. E., at its Fourth Annual Purse Auction at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 at the church. The theme is "Purses with a Purpose" and proceeds from the auction will go to the Helping Kids in Need Foundation. This event is free, fun and open to all. Refreshments will be served. First Presbyterian Church: presents "A Taste of India" at 4 p.m. Sunday in the church activity building, 16 Leon Sullivan Way. Featured will be the film "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" and authentic Indian food catered by Little India Restaurant. The film, starring Judi Dench, Maggie Smith and Bill Nighy, explores human relationship through the lens of Indian culture. A donation will be received to help cover the cost of the meal. The event is sponsored by the Lay Academy. Reservations are appreciated. Call the church at 304-343-8961.
