Booker, who lived in the 1500 block of Dixie Street, had a criminal record and had been involved in the drug trade, Eggleton said.

In March 2004, he was indicted on first-degree murder charges in the fatal shooting of Donald Williams, 37, in Charleston. Booker was 17 at the time, but the case was moved to adult status.

He eventually pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and spent about four years incarcerated for that charge.

In September 2010, Booker was charged with involuntary manslaughter after he got into a fight with Omar Lorenzo Thompson, 27, of Beckley, in Charleston.

He allegedly punched Thompson once in the back of the head, knocking him to the ground. Thompson was later pronounced dead at CAMC General Hospital from injuries when he hit his head on a corner of a concrete sidewalk, according to Gazette reports.

He spent one year in prison, the maximum for that charge, according to records in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.

Booker's death is Charleston's fifth homicide so far this year.
