PHILIPPI, W.Va. -- Barbour County officials are looking to establish a permanent centralized shelter following superstorm Sandy.

Interim county emergency management director Cindy Hart tells The Inter-Mountain that the proposed shelter would be located at the Barbour County Fairgrounds. It would be large enough to house and feed many people.

In the wake of Sandy, officials opened up community buildings to distribute water and food.

Hart says many residents had no electricity for nine to 14 days.
